About Us

UMOVE is a not-for-profit, volunteer-driven organization that was founded in 2001 by a group of mothers who each lost a child to a senseless act of violence.

Since 2001, UMOVE has expanded its membership to include supporting members of the community & is open to everyone who opposes violence and is committed to violence prevention.

UMOVE provides support for victims of violence and supports like-minded organizations in an effort to foster unity, love, peace, accountability and preservation of life within all communities.

In addition, UMOVE wants to help end the conditions that we believe cause violence. We want to eliminate the ethnic and racial stereotyping that increases community tensions and hides the social and economic disruptions that we believe are at the heart of such violence.

UMOVE DAY OF NON-VIOLENCE

Our Annual Event is Sunday, October 21, 2007, 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. at
Mel Lastman Square in North York (on Yonge Street between Sheppard and Finch)

Admission is FREE and we encourage EVERYONE to attend and encourage others to attend.

This event is a  "Stop the Violence" RALLY and will feature a concert with local musical artists and multi-media presentation comprised of photos and video clips of loved ones we have lost to violence.

There is strength in numbers, therefore, our goal is to have a MINIMUM of 1,000 supporters attend this event.  Please participate and help us reach our goal.

It has been said that a picture is worth a thousand words.  We agree and we would love to have a photo of a crowd of 1,000 or more supporters rallying together for peace & non-violence on the front page of a major newspaper.  This would send a powerful message to the community and  elected officials:

VIOLENCE IS NOT THE ANSWER & WE NEED FUNDING FROM ALL LEVELS OF GOVERNMENT FOR PROGRAMMING FOR CHILDREN AND YOUTH, CRIME PREVENTION AND VICTIM SUPPORT.

If you would like your loved one featured in our presentation, please send the following to photos@umoveonline.com

bulletphoto and/or video clip
bulletfull name of person
bulletperson's birth date & date of passing

If you would like to donate to UMOVE or volunteer at the event, please email us at umove@umoveonline.com

See you on Sunday, October 21, 2007.

Peace.

Our Mission

UMOVE is focused on the creation and implementation of social and education initiatives to prevent violence and strives to increase public awareness about the effects of violence by organizing and participating in projects, annual conventions, lectures and victim support programs.

In addition, UMOVE advocates for the reform of public policies (including the Criminal Code of Canada)  that directly or indirectly contribute to violence prevention by providing submissions to relevant Standing Committees, participating in taskforces and advisory committees and through strong government relations.
